GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Crisis Training Specialist will promote awareness of services available through Camino Real to persons diagnosed with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to  assessing for crisis, develop crisis respite service plans describing the supports needed, collaborate with the individual’s service planning team on follow-up and relapse prevention activities (e.g., assisting with transition from crisis respite, addressing concerns/issues identified during monitoring visits, etc.).  Provides education to Camino Real staff and the community about the manner in which to engage individuals with IDD and their unique needs.  Monitor crisis respite services for individuals diagnosed with IDD in accordance with Camino Real Community Services policies and procedures.  The job calls for a self-motivated and energetic person to conduct observations and assessments relevant to the program on recommendations and intervention so as to increase the probability of positive outcomes for the individual in crisis and their families (e.g., systematic evaluation of team members, varying site consultations, Functional Assessment and Analysis, internal/external interviews, provide training to MCOT teams, law enforcement and internal collateral.  The Crisis Intervention Specialist will also be responsible for monitoring of crisis respite plan strategies, monitoring program outcomes, developing and training on tracking forms, etc.).  This position will be housed at the Lytle Administration Office in Lytle, Texas, and will require some travel within our nine-county service area.  This position will work under the supervision of the Crisis Intervention & Eligibility Determination Specialist.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • A qualified intellectual disability professional who holds a Bachelors’ Degree in social, behavioral, or human services, may include, but is not limited to psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human development, gerontology, educational psychology, education, criminal justice, and interdisciplinary studies.
  • Has at least two (2) years of experience working directly with persons diagnosed with intellectual or other developmental disabilities (IDD) who have mental health and behavior support needs or linking people with IDD to mental health supports, in addition to one year of required experience.
  • Must meet TAC Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) qualifications.
  • Must possess good computer skills.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish.
  • At least two (2+) years of experience working with individuals diagnosed with IDD utilizing ABA principles.
  • Experience in developing and implementing behavioral programs with individuals diagnosed with IDD.
  • Experience in training direct care staff.
  • A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
  • A Psychiatrist.
  • A Licensed Professional Counselor.
  • A Licensed Master Social Worker who is clinically supervised by a Licensed Professional Counselor.
  • Licensed Psychologist.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
  • Crisis Intervention Specialist Psychiatrist.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to program.
  • Submits required documentation and/or reports accurately and timely.
  • Must commit to completing all required DADS training modules within 30 days after hire date and any additional training modules assigned by DADS or CRCS as needed.
  • Highly motivated, excellent work ethic, high degree of quality work.
  • Ability to lift thirty pounds and have full flexibility of movement.
  • Ability to work calmly in a fast-paced and therefore sometimes stressful environment and still maintain personal health and emotional stability.
