GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Medical Assistant works under the supervision of and reports directly to the Clinic Director.  Works closely with Medication Coordinator/Charge Nurses to ensure that the PAP program is effective and operating within Camino Real Procedures, and to ensure that the medication budget for the clinic is not exceeded.

Responsible for prescription assistance program (PAP) to include completion of applications (MedData Services, Ince.), tracking, ordering, and labeling all PAP.  Will monitor sample medication from the time that it arrives at the clinic, until it leaves with a consumer.  A sample inventory will be maintained in the MDCCARES Tracking database.  All labeled medications received will be logged into the individuals Consumers Medication Pick-up Tracking Form and then stored in the medication cabinet by consumer.  Will work in conjunction with the clinic nurses(s) in maintaining a current and accurate MDCARES Registration/Tracking System.  As medications and/or funding source changes occur.  MDCARES Tracking System will be updated to reflect active/deactivated medical records.  As necessary we will provide assistance to the nurses€ by faxing prescriptions to the pharmacy and issuing consumers’ medications.  This position may serve as a back-up to the receptionist and/or reimbursement clerk as deemed necessary.  That can include but is not limited to updating demographics, securing verification of insurance benefits, and collecting payment for services.  May also assist in maintaining staff schedules, handling incoming/outgoing calls and correspondence.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
 
  • Two (2) years’ experience in related field.
  • Experience working in a medical office or healthcare facility.
  • Certified medical assistant required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Reside in Maverick County.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Knowledge of medical and business terminology, office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Managed Care, third party billing, Medicaid, and Medicare.
  • Knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with mental illness and appropriate approaches to treatment and nursing functions.
  • Skills with basic health care facility office automation equipment, computers, and software.
  • Skills in word processing, maintaining clerical records, preparing reports, and composing letters and memoranda with accurate spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • Skills in interpersonal relations with individuals from all age groups.
  • Skills with basic arithmetic, accurate mathematical computations, and tabulations.
  • Skill with typing/keyboarding at a speed sufficient to complete work assignments on time.
  • Ability to take/record/compose meeting minutes.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals and the public.
  • Ability to work independently, to organize work efficiently, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to relate to health facility clients of all ages while focusing on treatment outcomes.
  • The ability to maintain physical and emotional stamina permits full performance of duties.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and sometimes stressful health care service environment.
