GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide peer support to justice involved individuals living with or in recovery from mental health and or substance use conditions.  Facilitates discussion groups to assign TCOOMMI clients and provides rehabilitative services in both individual and group settings.  Assist clients in articulating personal goals for recovery and supports clients in identifying and creating goals and developing recovery plans with the skills, strengths, support, and resources to aid them in achieving those goals.  Assist clients in setting up and sustaining self-help (mutual support) groups, as well as means of locating and joining existing groups.  Assist clients in building skills that will enhance job acquisition and tenure.  Teach and role model the value of every individual’s recovery experience.  Assist client in obtaining affordable housing of his/her choice in the most integrated, independent, and least intrusive or restrictive environment.  Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.  Assist in obtaining services that suit that individual’s recovery needs.  Assist clients in developing empowerment skills and combating stigma through self-advocacy.  Works under moderate supervision with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position
:
High school diploma or Ged.
A person who lived experience with the criminal justice system and has been recipient of mental health services for persistent and severe mental illness for at least one year.
Must maintain a valid drivers’ license and automobile insurance coverage.
Must be able to pass required background check(s) and pass random drug screening(s).

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Demonstrate ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish.
Resident of Camino Real Community Services Service Area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Should possess or demonstrate the ability to acquire a thorough understanding of all local, state, and federal health and human services programs with an emphasis on programs which serve children and adolescents with disabilities.
Ability to work independently, to organize work efficiently and to complete tasks within designated deadlines.
Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other parents, professionals, and individuals.
Ability to work under supervision.
Ability to work courteously, effectively, and non-judgmentally with families of emotionally disturbed youth.
Ability to keep accurate records.
Knowledge of agencies and services for youth in the area, including county educational systems.
Willingness to travel and participate in educating and empowering parents and family members.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to build partnerships with a wide range of individuals and organizations.
