GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities:
 
  • Performs biopsychosocial intakes and assessments and explores diagnoses with course of treatment.
  • Screens for substance abuse, including physical and mental health status.
  • Develops treatment plans, including measurable goals and objectives, and completes review for progress.
  • Facilitates psycho-education classes, group therapy, support groups, and individual counseling.
  • Inputs clinical documentation into Clinical Management for Behavioral Health Services (CMBHS) in a timely manner for all services rendered with or on behalf of clients.
  • Links and refers consumers presenting to clinic to appropriate services.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
 
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED, plus one (1) year of work experience in an area related to duties of the position.
  • English/Spanish skills, demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish.
  • Must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) licensed to practice in the State of Texas.
  • All substance abuse-related training must be completed within 90 days of hire.
Education and Experience:
  • Associates Degree in psychology, sociology, social work, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience working with consumers diagnosed with substance abuse, mental health, or dual diagnosis.
  • Current Texas licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in good standing.
  • Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all State regulations and CHCS policies.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in behavioral science.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of full-time work experience in the social services or substance abuse services.
  • Professional experience working with consumers diagnosed with substance abuse and/r co-occurring disorders.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with mental illness.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of behavioral science and behavioral health care.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, government regulation, and agency rules governing behavioral health care.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, how to access them and use them effectively.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, which emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety to help survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced health services work setting and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of agency rules, regulations policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to work with the public and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to problem solve in a creative, viable and realistic manner.
  • Ability to work independently, to organize work efficiently, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals, individuals, and groups of people.
  • Ability to develop productive relationships with individual and family members that focus on individual specific outcomes.
  • Must have ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and ability to work in a stressful environment.
