GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Safety Officer is responsible for the development, implementation, promotion and monitoring of the facility safety management program. Performs moderately complex (journey-level) safety, and health program work. Manages an ongoing agency-wide process to collect and evaluate information about hazards and safety practices that are used to identify safety/risk management issues and determine corrective action. Work involves developing coordinating and evaluating safety and health programs. Responsible for ensuring that the center offices remain and compliance with Life Safety Code (LSC) and State Fire Marshalls (SFMO) regulations. Ensures facility employees and individuals are prepared to act during any type of emergency by following Emergency Response Procedures outlined for facility. Monitors workplace activities to ensure that workers comply with company policies and government safety regulations. Completes random monthly inspections on each building through the use of supports out in the field to determine if there are any safety hazards. Makes immediate corrections to any safety hazards or submit work orders for any repairs needed and follow up to ensure work has been completed timely. Randomly conduct fire at weather drills and may work varied shifts to conduct drills, routine and health program work. Work involves assisting with the development of safety policies and procedures participating in the safety training and education of staff inspecting work areas and activities for hazards and assisting in investigating accidents. Coordinates efforts with the Program Directors, Managers, and Additional Duty Safety Officers (ADSO) to address space basic safety requirements. Duties include assurance of proper insurance coverages for vehicles and buildings. Coordinates reporting of vehicle accidents and building damage to the Texas Council of Risk Management Fund. Camino Real Community Services requires that all employees participate in trauma informed care training. Position requires travel to all Agency sites. Must maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License. Position reports to Executive Director (or designee).

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a credit four-year college or university with major coursework and safety, health, management, or related field. One-year related experience.

Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, a good driving record for the past three years, and a valid auto insurance card.

Must be at least 18 years of age and pass a criminal background test and drug screening.


PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Three years full-time, wage earning experience in criminal justice, risk management or related field (e.g. loss control, workers, compensation, environmental science, occupational safety, or industrial hygiene)
  • Prior working experience with community mental health center
  • Bilingual English /Spanish

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Knowledge of proper operation of tools and equipment to ensure appropriate use
  • Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials and practices
  • Knowledge of applicable states and federal regulations
  •  Skills in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  •  Skills in operating computers and in using applicable computer software
  •  Skills in writing reports and policies for health and safety. Excellent verbal and telephone communication with consumers staff and community providers
  • Ability to plan develop organize direct control and evaluate safety and health programs
  • Able to provide guidance to others ability to manage work in a stressful environment
  • Ability to gather, organize and analyze and complete comprehensive reports
  • Ability to investigate and evaluate complex, safety problems and issues. Ability to work in a high stress environment
  • Ability to work with other agencies in order to carry out the duties
  • Working knowledge of business, English spelling punctuation and arithmetic
  • Excellent written communication and computer keyboarding for inputting clinical documentation.
