GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDCs) or LCDC-I deliver a full range of services to include direct care to adults and children/adolescents in an outpatient setting. Services include individual, group, and family counseling, assessment and recovery planning, chemical dependency education, and relapse prevention. Counselors will establish and maintain good working relationships with local schools, probation, judges, and other community resources. Counselor must be a recovery role model for individuals enrolled in Camino Real Community Services (CRCS). LCDCs determine what will help individuals reduce their risk of relapsing and increase their chances of becoming a productive member of the community. CRCS priority populations served will include adults with severe, persistent mental illness (SPMI) and their families, to include those with dual substance use disorders (SUD), and children, and adolescents, with qualifying mental/emotional conditions. LCDCs will screen and assess for substance use, psychosocial and environmental status of individuals and coordinatereferral of individuals to clinical and other resources and services. LCDCs have basic knowledge of the Counseling 12 Core Functions of drug and alcohol substance abuse programs and treatment; and of the 12 Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous; basic knowledge of the criminal justice system; basic knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy methods and techniques; basic knowledge of Dual Diagnosis Treatment; and residential placement process through OSAR. LCDCs have a commitment to uphold and adhere to the Code of Ethics as outlined by the CSCD and the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and Texas Association of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. LCDCs communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, organize and report data, and work with a team of professionals to implement team strategic approaches to work assignments. LCDCs are proficient in operating Windows-basedword processing, spreadsheet, and database software. LCDCs document work daily utilizing agency approved software. Clinical supervision will be provided byappropriate staff. LCDCs constantly exercise vigilance in maintaining confidential files and reports and contribute to CRCS stated purposes. Position has set productivity standards, which must be met monthly. Use of personal vehicles may be required. May require travel between sites.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be eligible for the position:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social, behavioral, or human service field (psychology, social work, medicine, nursing, rehabilitation, counseling, sociology, human growth and development, physician assist, gerontology, special education, educational psychology, early childhood education, or early childhood intervention).
  • Must be a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) OR (LCDC-I) licensed to practice in the State of Texas.
  • English/Spanish skills; demonstrate ability to red, write, and speak English and Spanish.
  • Must meet TAC Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) qualifications.
  • You must possess good computer skills.
  • Familiarity with HIPPA (Health Information Privacy and Portability Act).
  • Must have experience in working with Clinical Management for Behavioral Health System (CMBHA).

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • One (1) year of direct care collaborating with individuals with a substance use disorder (SUD).
  • One (1) year of experience collaborating with individuals with mental illness and/or dual diagnosis in a community setting.
  • Work experience in a health care/clinic environment.
  • Familiarity with psychiatric and mental health related terminology to include crisis response.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 
  • Knowledge of individual needs/characteristics associated with mental illness.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, techniques and practices of behavioral science and behavioral health care.
  • Knowledge of community based behavioral health service.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, government regulation, and agency rules governing behavioral health care.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, how to access them and use them effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced health services work setting and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of agency rules, regulations policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to work with the public and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to problem solve in a creative, viable and realistic manner.
  • Ability to work independently, to organize work efficiently, and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with other professionals, individuals, and groups of people.
  • Ability to develop productive relationships with individual and family members that focus on individual specific outcomes.
  • Ability to advocate effectively for an individual in the target population.
  • Ability to make appropriate referrals and linkages and to overcome barriers between service systems.
  • Must have ability to work under conditions requiring physical stamina and ability to work in a stressful environment.
